Our Thyroid Gland: Its Affect On Weight

Our thyroid is one of the most powerful glands in our body.  It is located in the neck, just beneath the Adam’s Apple.  If you position your thumb and fingers just beneath where your Adam’s Apple would be, you will feel it when you swallow.

So what exactly is the purpose of our thyroid gland?

The thyroid manufactures four different basic compounds, only one of which is the active thyroid hormone.  This hormone, called T4, or thyroxin, travels to all parts of our body and affects every one of our trillion or so cells.

However, without sufficient levels of iodine being present in our body, our thyroid cannot make any thyroid hormone.  Even with a fit and healthy body, if our body is starved of iodine, it will be impossible for our thyroid gland to make the necessary thyroid hormones.

If we are exposed continuously to fluoride, chlorine or bromine, then our thyroid will not work.

Fluoride, chlorine and bromine displace iodine from the body.  These particular chemicals (called halides) kick out iodine from chemical reactions leaving our body devoid of iodine and without iodine our Thyroid Gland becomes useless.

The thyroid controls many body functions.  One of the primary functions of the thyroid is metabolism regulation.  It does this by affecting the mitochondria inside cells. The more thyroid hormone that circulates, the more our metabolism increases. Our metabolic rate determines whether we will lose or gain weight.

Body temperature is the key to determining our metabolic status – and therefore, our thyroid status.  If our body temperature is low, then almost by definition, we are hypothyroid (under active thyroid).

If we experience difficulties losing weight or continuously gain weight despite what appears to be good eating habits and exercise habits on our part; then it is reasonable to conclude that the problem lies with our thyroid gland.

If our thyroid cannot function properly because it does not have the necessary fuel (iodine) to manufacture thyroid hormone then our body metabolism slows down, our body gets cooler, and experiences cold hands and feet frequently, requires blankets to sleep (even in the summer), has muscle cramps at night and worst of all – gains weight.

If this is sounding familiar, recognize then that our bodies need iodine and supplement your diet with iodine.   Just give it what it needs.

If our bodies are deficient in iodine, supplementation will work.

In cases where our body has an overabundance of fluoride, chlorine and bromine, iodine (in sufficient doses) will overcome the halide chemicals.

Iodine does get our metabolism working. This is the safe and effective way of getting our thyroid gland back on track. There is basically no upper limit on the amount of iodine our bodies can take.

And we will never have to be concerned about prescription thyroid hormones getting out of control which potentially could have serious adverse effects.
